I have always been intrigued by the line or stroke that remains as a visual record of a tool moving across a surface. Whether the mark is on the wall of a prehistory cave or the most recent drawing by a contemporary artist I am touched by the artists' need to record a memory, an observation, to materialize their experience. I believe the often-solitary endeavor of making one's mark expresses the powerful primal need to record our existence and remind us of what it is to be fully human.
